Exclusive Interview: Caitlin Covington X Pink Lily

How did the collaboration start? Did you have inspiration or ideas in mind of what you wanted the pieces to look like?

Caitlin: My two favorite times of year are spring and fall, so I wanted to partner with Pink Lily to design a collection for both seasons! The spring one launched back in March, and this one launches in October. For the fall launch, I really wanted to create a collection of fall staples that you could wear now and all through the winter for years to come. I wanted classic, well-fitting pieces that mixed and matched with each other! It was important to me that the items looked good on ALL body types and that they're offered in a range of sizes - something that Pink Lily is also passionate about! All of the pieces come in sizes XS to 2XL and are less than $100.

What did the overall process of putting together a collection look like? What was your favorite part about this process?

Caitlin: It started with putting together an inspiration board for the collection. It was really fun to put together for fall - I had lots of images of steaming cups of coffee and bright colorful leaves! Then from the inspiration board, I started designing each piece and then Pink Lily would get each one sampled. Once the sample came in, it might need a few changes - shorten the hem, tuck in the waist, change up the fabric. But my favorite part of the entire process is seeing it all come together at the end whenever we are on location for the photo shoot! For this collection we shot everything in Vermont at the peak of fall foliage and it was an absolute dream. I love every single piece so much!

What was your ultimate goal for the creation of your collection?

Caitlin: The ultimate goal is to make women feel confident in the outfits I designed! There is nothing better than putting on an outfit and feeling great in your clothes. I want all women to feel that way when they wear my pieces!

Describe your collection in three words.

Caitlin: Timeless. Polished. Feminine.

Which style from your collection would you consider the "season essential" or "closet staple?"

Caitlin: Definitely the Kennedy Coat! We worked so hard on this coat because we wanted it to be absolutely perfect. If you only buy one coat this year, we wanted this one to be it! We tried a bunch of different styles and fabrics, and I'm SO happy with how it turned out. It's made of a really thick, high-quality material with a super soft lining to keep you warm in the winter. It is seriously so beautiful and you will wear it for many years to come!

Which style do you want to wear on repeat?

Caitlin: Definitely the Courtney Ribbed Dresses! They come in three colors: white, black and tan, and they're SO easy to throw on and go. They're comfortable, not too tight, and really easy to style a million different ways so you can get a lot of wear out of them. I personally love them paired with a denim jacket and booties!

Which piece is your favorite from the collection?

Caitlin: Probably the Chelsea Wrap Sweater Dress. I love both colors, the black and the Burnt Orange. They fit SO well, they hug in all the right places and make me feel sexy and confident at the same time! I wore one on a date night with my husband the other night and received so many compliments. I also love that this wrap dress works for mamas, both new and expecting. The fabric is soft and stretchy to accommodate a bump, and if you're breastfeeding, it's super easy to pull down for your baby. 

Where would you wear your favorite item? Do you have any occasions or destinations in mind for any of the other items?

Caitlin: All of the pieces are designed to wear every day, for both casual wear and dressier occasions! A lot of them can be dressed up or down depending on your accessories. 

What element of the collection launch are you most looking forward to?

Caitlin: The feedback from you girls! I love love love seeing your responses and how much you love the Pink Lily items when you receive them. I love it even more when you post photos! It is definitely a "pinch me" moment every single time I see someone post a photo in one of my items. It's hard to describe!
